Public Art and Architecture There is little in the way of significant Art Deco public art or architecture in Sydney, but what exists is impressive! Chief amongst these are C. Bruce Dellit's ANZAC War Memorial and the Archibald Fountain, both located in Hyde Park near the city centre. The former is a magnificent, soaring Deco-classicist conscruction which rises from a stepped cruciform podium, and which is adorned with allegorical monumental stone and bronze relief sculpture by Rainer Hoff. The latter, equally striking, derives its impact from Francois Sicard's figurative bronze statuary depicting Diana the Huntress (a common Deco theme), Theseus and the Minotaur, Jason and the Golden Fleece and Apollo. Further images will be added to this page over coming months. |
